FUN IN THE SUN

As the sun is shining more and the weather is starting to get warmer, we all love to spend a bit more time outside soaking up the rays, our dogs included! When temperatures hit 20 degrees and above that’s when to start adjusting your and your furry friends routine.

Whilst being in the sun may be great fun for you in your summer dresses or shorts, that is not always the case for your dog! We have put together all our tips for keeping your dog safe in the sun, all while having a lot of pawsome fun by being outside.

Shade

Make sure your furry friend has a shaded area to relax in for when it gets a bit too hot for them. Grab a few of their favourite toys and pop it in the shaded area to encourage them to go and have a lay down in their nice cool spot. If possible, set up their shaded area near where you are if you’re in the garden, that way they won’t feel left out!

Water

Fill up a water bowl for your dog outside to encourage them to drink more water, make sure to check every so often that their bowl has water in as your dog may be drinking more than usual. To keep your dog cool and entertained, why not fill up a paddling pool for them to doggy paddle or pop in a few balls that float, then you have doggy ball bobbing! If you have a sprinkler, then set it up and watch your dog run through the jets of water, you can get involved too!

Walkies

Dogs love their walkies time; it is a chance to get and explore! During the hotter months, you may have to adapt your routine, avoid taking your dog for walks in the middle of the day when the sun is at the hottest – early in the morning or later on in the cooler evening is best! Don’t forget to pack some water for your dog, especially if you are going on a long walk or if you are going to play an energetic game with a frisbee or ball!

Frozen treats

Messy, but tasty! Frozen treats in the perfect way to cool your dog down. Why not freeze some gravy in an ice cube tray and bring it outside for them to enjoy? If you have some chicken or beef stock, try freezing or freeze some treats in water in your ice cube tray, then your dog can stay entertained as they try to get to the treat!

We hope you have lots of fun in the sun with your furry friend, but just remember to keep them shaded during the hottest parts of the day and keep their water bowls topped up!
